Medical Tourism in India

Medical Tourism or Health Tourism means patients visit another destination for treatments / surgeries. International patients consider India a the most preferred destination for Medical Tourism. India is also considered to be the second most popular destination for Medical Tourism. They prefer India mainly becoz of two reasons, one is the cost effectiveness and the other is for the India offers state-of-the-art Hospital. India offers the World Class Medical facilities comparable with any of the Hospitals in the World and most competitive doctors.

If you look into the cost effectuality in India, it is not really cheaper getting their treatment done in India. Due to the current favorable Rupee/Dollar/Euro exchange rate overseas clients can take advantage of the feeble currency and they are expected to save around 50 – 60% over the same treatment compared to their country, yet with no compromise on the Quality of service. For eg. the estimated cost for a heart surgery in the U.S is $26,000, however the same could be performed India for about $6,000. Similarly, a bone marrow transplant could cost about $2,50,000 in the US while it could be done here for about $40,000.

Cost effectiveness has attracted huge number of International Patients to India and Recession is one of the magnitude, for boom of medical tourism in India. But other factors, too, have contributed to the growth of medical tourism in India. "Indian clinical and paramedical talent is globally appreciated. Statistics show that the medical tourism industry in India is worth $333 million (INR 1,450 crore) while a study by CII-McKinsey estimates that the country could earn INR.5,000-10,000 crore by 2012.
